SEI Investigator's First Proteomic Analysis of Birth Defect Demonstrates Power of a New Technique

SEI Co-director, Dr. Steven J. Fliesler, from University at Buffalo, found that using a new methodology provides better understanding of factors causing Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome, proves utility for studying other diseases.

SEI Investigators from Downstate Medical Center receive ECRIP Fellowships

The SEI is pleased to announce that Downstate Medical Center SEI researchers have received two 2013 ECRIP fellowships. The awards are both for translational medicine and involve a collaboration between Downstate Ophthalmology faculty and College of Nano Scale Science and Engineering faculty in Albany.

SEI Annual Meeting

The 2013 meeting will be hosted by SUNY Downstate Medical Center

 

The keynote speaker for this year's meeting will be Martin Friedlander, MD, PhD.  Dr. Friedlander is a Professor in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at The Scripps Research Institute.  In addition, Dr. Friedlander is an alumni of Downstate Medical Center.

SEI Investigator Receives President's Award

Dr. Peter D. Calvert, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at SUNY Upstate Medical University, received the President's Award for Excellence in Basic Research by a Young Investigator at Upstate's Faculty Convocation on September 11, 2013.

National Eye Institute Awards R01 to SEI Investigator
Dr. Peter D. Calvert was awarded a competitive renewal of his R01 grant from the National Eye Institute. The grant is entitled: Mechanisms of Signal-Dependant Photoreceptor Protein Localization Transport. Dr. Calvert's primary appointment is in Ophthalmology at Upstate Medical University
Dr. Michael E. Zuber was awarded a competitive renewal of his R01 grant from the National Eye Institute. The grant is entitled: Retinal Stem Cell Culture and Characterization.
